Diabetes FAQ

  • Yes; we recommend you verify with your insurance plan prior to scheduling education appointments. If you do not have insurance coverage, you are welcome to come to our free walk-in class on managing diabetes. The class is held every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon and every Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. Classes are not held on holidays, and you do not have to schedule an appointment.

  • We accept most insurance. We urge you to check with your personal insurance carrier to make sure you are covered. Check your insurance identification card for contact information. Here is the information that will be helpful when calling your insurance company:

    • Our tax ID number: 481163756
    • Medical director: David C. Robbins, MD
    • Our services: Diabetes education/medical nutrition therapy
    • Type of bill: Office visit
    • Questions to ask: What is my benefit for diabetes education? Am I limited to a certain number of visits? Will I be responsible for copays?
  • Clinic visits, individual education appointments and group classes need to be scheduled in advance. A referral from a physician is needed for insurance coverage for education.

The free class on managing diabetes is the only walk-in service we provide. This is a group class during which you will have the opportunity to learn from one of our diabetes educators. You will not receive medical care or prescriptions for medications during this class. Classes are held every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon and every Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. Classes are not held on holidays, and you do not have to schedule an appointment.

  • Due to a high volume of calls, we ask that you have your pharmacy fax a refill request to 913-588-4060 at least 1-2 weeks prior to running out.

Please note that the Cray Diabetes Self-Management Center can only prescribe medications for the treatment of your diabetes and diabetes-related conditions. Medications ordered by other physicians need to be renewed by the prescribing physician.

  • Due to the large number patients who are referred to our center, our providers will work with your physician to determine the urgency of your appointment. Our care providers will not be available to assist patients on a walk-in basis. You are encouraged to contact the Cray Diabetes Self-Management Center with any concerns. All calls are generally returned within 24 hours.

If you have an urgent issue or emergency, visit an urgent care clinic or emergency room.

  • Learn more about how you can access your lab results online using MyChart.

Ideally, one of our advanced practice nurses or the doctor who ordered your lab work would discuss it with you and provide you with a copy. If you have questions, call us.

If your lab work was not ordered by our clinic, we may not have access to this information. Contact the provider who ordered lab work.

If we have recently done lab work, and you want results forwarded to your primary doctor, provide us with a note signed by you. Include the fax number and name of your physician.
