Maternity Research & Innovations
As an academic medical center, we are home to leading-edge innovation and research. It’s part of our goal to continually improve the level of care we’re able to provide. That means moms and babies have access to the latest tests and treatments.
- Physicians with our Center for Advanced Fetal Care have performed more than 3,000 fetal procedures. This includes hundreds of lifesaving blood transfusions and surgeries on babies still in the womb.
- Our fetal care specialists are also pioneers in testing and imaging. They were the first to perform a test using blood from a vein in the umbilical cord to find problems before birth. We were also the first hospital in the region to offer fetoscopy – which lets doctors see the baby inside the womb with a tiny camera.
- Our doctors often conduct clinical trials, which help find even better treatments for future moms and babies. You may be able to participate.
Outcomes
The quality of care we provide leads to exceptional outcomes. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) babies survive and thrive more often than those cared for at most other hospitals.
- We consistently meet or exceed international averages for survival rates.
- We beat the benchmark for avoiding certain lung problems.
- The babies we treat have fewer infections.
Leaders in research
We continue to find the most innovative ways to bring basic care to mothers and babies.
- Researchers in our Center for Reproductive Sciences are discovering new and better treatment options for male and female infertility.
- We have the only fellowship-trained urologic and gynecologic surgeons in Kansas who use the da Vinci Surgical System. The da Vinci extends our surgeons' capabilities to perform minimally invasive surgical procedures with greater precision. Patients benefit through shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times.
- The Center for Advanced Fetal Care is a world-class clinical and research facility, designed to be the premier resource in the region for state-of-the-art perinatology (the care and support of the unborn child). Our physicians continue to find the very best ways to help our littlest patients.
