How to Use Telehealth

Telehealth is a secure, convenient way to meet with your healthcare provider from the comfort of home, or wherever you are. Here are the basics of what you need to do before using telehealth.

You will need an internet connection, a device (smartphone, tablet or computer) with audio and video capabilities, and a MyChart patient portal account.

30 minutes before your scheduled telehealth appointment, you will receive notifications by email and text with a link to join your visit. As you click through that link, you’ll see any opportunity to invite others to join you, such as a partner or caregiver. Then enter the meeting by choosing the Join Video Visit button with enough time to test your audio, video and volume. MyChart will automatically do this for you.

Please also adjust your device settings to allow pop-ups, ensuring any pop-up blocker features are turned off.

You’ll next click Join Call to enter the meeting space. You’re now ready to see your provider when they join.

Important policies for telehealth services

Please also take time to review these important forms. At the beginning of your telehealth visit, a member of your care team will ask that you’ve read and agree to these policies and will document your verbal approval. Your care team must also verify where you will be physically located prior to your telehealth appointment. If you will not be in Kansas or Missouri at the time of your visit, you need to contact your provider to adjust your appointment.

Create a MyChart account

The MyChart patient portal offers information, features and functions to help you better manage your health. Use it to schedule visits, check lab and test results, communicate with your providers and more. You can create an account online.

Connecting to your telehealth video visit

You will receive all the information you need to prepare for and connect to your appointment.

On the day of your appointment:

  • Click the link in the email or text notification you will receive 30 minutes before your scheduled visit time.
  • Or, log in to your MyChart account. Click the button in the scheduled telehealth visit on the home page banner or go to the Visits page to click into today’s scheduled telehealth visit.
  • Click the Join Video Visit button. You can do this up to 30 minutes before your scheduled visit, even if your providers have not yet logged in.
  • You will be automatically checked in. A member of our care team will join your visit shortly to begin the appointment.

If you are the parent or guardian of a minor or the caregiver of a loved one, you can request proxy access to their MyChart to participate in their telehealth appointment. In the main menu of your own MyChart account, choose Request Access to Minor’s Chart. Follow the prompts and submit the form.

Inviting others to your telehealth video visit

You are welcome to invite family members or caregivers to join your telehealth video visit. Let them know the date and time of your virtual doctor visit in advance.

On the day of your telehealth video visit, follow the link in the text or email notification you will receive 30 minutes before your visit time. In the visit details, before clicking the button to join the actual visit, follow the link that reads View and Invite Participants. Follow the prompts to send your visit link to others you’d like to include.
